Holiday Hair {2 Simple But Festive Styles}

Saturday, December 24, 2016

You've got your outfit picked out, your gifts wrapped and maybe even a pretty new lipstick to finish off your holiday look, but what about your hair.  I found myself getting in a rut.  Whenever I feel like my hair is getting boring I feel the need to do something drastic (like chop it off).  This year I decided to get a little more creative.  With the holidays being crazy enough as it is, I knew I needed something that was pretty and different, but didn't take much time.  I'm talking less than 5 minutes.

I love wearing my hair curly.  Any given day you're likely to see me with some curls. It's a classic look that never goes out of style.  Depending on your length you can play with the tightness of the curl. Curls are also the perfect base for several different hair styles. If you don't have a lot of time go with bigger curls, grabbing larger sections of hair, for a looser look.  I like tighter curls since it gives a full, dramatic style.  I started my first look with those tighter curls using THIS curling wand. I love the body it gives my curls and it heats up so quickly.  The barrels are interchangeable so you can go from spiral curls to huge barrel curls with just the click of a button.

Absolutely nothing wrong with leaving good enough alone and keeping with the curls, but I wanted to add something extra. I am not one of those talented people who can do pretty braids, especially on myself, so I turned to Just Braydz for the most beautiful accessories for your hair. I have the traditional braid and wreath braid headband that you can wear so many different ways. I'm showing the wreath braid in a traditional headband style but I have also used them to wrap around a low bun. How amazing is this braid?

If you're searching for more drama add in extensions! I am absolutely in love with Irresistible Me and their extensions. The look very natural, have so much dimension to the color and curl beautifully. I didn't need to color them, they came matching my hair perfectly and I don't have one solid color.  They add so much body and length but feel very natural. I usually only use about half the wefts but if I put them all in I know it would make a huge statement. I opted for the 20" but they have longer and shorter ones as well.  I even trimmed some of them to have them blend more seamlessly.

What is your go to hair style for a special occasion?

Jewel Tone Sweater

Friday, December 23, 2016

I spent the day organizing baby clothes and am in denial that I no longer have a baby. Now the dilema is whether or not I save it all.  Am I crazy to consider a third. Some days I think, absolutely! Others I think, I want nothing more than that crazy life. Only time and God will tell.

Continuing my summer love of off the shoulder tops with this pretty jewel tone sweater. The deep, rich color is even prettier in person and it goes well with any color pants. I matched it with white jeans because white after labor is definitely a thing. In fact, I think I wear these jeans more than any other. My sweater is Free People and it's already sold out but I've linked several other great options that I'm loving. Plus, if you haven't already scoped out the dollar section in your local Target then go there NOW.  They have these light weight blanket scarves in multiple colors and each is better than the next.  For $9 they are a steal. They aren't huge which can be a problem with so many blanket scarfs but I have a great trick for you if you can only find the larger size scarves. Cut them! Yes, you read that right. Cut them diagonally and then you have two.  Great for swapping with friends and this way the scarf doesn't swallow you whole.

Gifting Uniquely {Wood Watches}

jord watch

wood watch

men's watch

So around here we have a hard time keeping a surprise, a surprise.  I get so excited about giving gifts that I often times can't wait until the actual day to give it and end up letting it be opened early.  No surprise that two of my husbands Christmas presents have already been opened and I'm not even mad about it. More time for him to enjoy them.  One of the gifts I just couldn't resist giving him is this gorgeous wood watch from Jord.  I love how unique a wood watch is and this one is so sleek and modern, I knew he would love it.

Jord watches are made from real wood, are incredibly lightweight but retain strength and beauty for years of wear. I picked out the Frankie watch in the zebrawood and champagne.  It is minimalistic and streamlined but still screams luxury.  Kevin has said it's awesome to wear because it doesn't feel like he has anything on.  It is not bulky and is adjustable, giving him a perfect fit right out of the box. The face is simplistic and uncomplicated and the wood grain is beautiful.

If you're looking for a great gift for any guy in your life, a wood watch is a perfect one. Every guy could add to his watch collection and the uniqueness of a wood watch is something he is bound to love.  Right now you can still order in time for Christmas and HERE is a special link for $25 off your watch. Don't go with the same old boring gifts that get thrown in the back of the closet and forgotten about.  Kevin has seriously worn his watch every day for the past two weeks (I know, I caved early) and he is a huge fan. Your guy will be too!

Making Memories Count

Saturday, December 17, 2016

If there's ever any doubt about what to get someone for the holidays, or any special occasion for that matter, never doubt the power of a personalized gift.  Gift certificates are too impersonal, tastes are so particular and personal style can be hard to replicate. Something that never goes out of style is a thoughtful, personalized item. Especially when it comes to family, nothing says I love you and shows you put thought into their gift like capturing a special memory or event that they can then look at year round.

This past year we had so many adventures, from picnics in the park and beach vacations with my family, to experiencing the happiest place on earth with Kevin's.  As a way to relive those moments and cement them in our memories I have teamed up with SHUTTERFLY to make this Christmas extra special.  I decided to make an array of personalized gifts for everyone in our family based on some of the magical moments spent together.

I had so much fun putting together calendars, mugs and ornaments but enjoyed even more making some really unique gifts like photo throws, paper weights and canvas totes.  SHUTTERFLY offers such a huge array of personalized gifts for everyone you know.  From basic to elaborate. From classic to never before seen.  SHUTTERFLY has the typical items and so much more.  There are lots of home keepsakes offered as well as office, kitchen and beyond.  I was able to find a personalized gift that fit the personality of everyone on my wish list, including the guys. And it also included a few additions to the home because the selection and quality were too good not to.

It's not too late to do your holiday shopping and really make your gift stand out.  SHUTTERFLY is offering free shipping with qualifying order with code: ship49 plus they have a huge sale right now. 50% off home decor, photo books, personalized gifts as well as, 40% calendars.  The items are all easy to make and are a really thoughtful touch for a holiday that is all about giving and loving.

 Love how our canvas print came out.
 These photo books are so easy to create and personalize.
 Paperweights, calendars, mugs and so much more.
 This blanket is so soft! I want to curl up in it.
 Great totes for makeup, to throw in your purse or use to get groceries.
 A twist on the specifically personalized gift for a great home addition, a table runner.
I love being able to stroll down memory lane with personalized photo ornaments.

You can find everything you need and everything your family and friends could want at SHUTTERFLY.

Clothed in Motivation

Friday, December 16, 2016

Nothing motivates me into a good work out like new clothes. Anyone else like that?  There's something about a new outfit that gets me excited and eager to actually go and sweat. Two things I always look for in fitness attire are; flexibility and breathability. First and foremost, I need to be able to move. I hate when clothes shift, especially pants. My preference is fitted, high waisted pants and I'm loving the mesh panels that are found everywhere now.

A Pop of Red {3 Ways to Wear Red Pants}

Wednesday, December 14, 2016

Red is such a statement color and can be dressed up or down depending on your purpose. I love clothes that can do double duty.  Something that can be worn to work or out to play.  So, I've styled these pants three ways to show you how versatile they can be.

Doing Double Duty {Sweater Dress Style}

Tuesday, December 13, 2016

The holidays are upon us and the holiday parties are here too! Not sure about you, but I have a jam packed social calendar from now until 2017. Some are work related, others strictly for pleasure but they all call for a little something different to wear.

THIS sweater dress caught my eye instantly for several reasons; it's a dead ringer for a Banana Republic dress, I'm loving all things merlot colored and the silhouette is ultra flattering on most body types. There is light ribbed texture and some stretch so the dress molds to your body but also moves with you. I threw on a leather bomber jacket and some nude pumps making it great for an office party but you could easily add a black bag, strappy heels and a coker to make it a bit more edgy.  If you live somewhere really cold, OTK boots or booties paired with stockings, a scarf and an oversized cardigan would be just as warm as it would be cute.

When I purchase clothes I always like to think about where I'm planning to wear it and how I can cross utilize it in my wardrobe.  This dress is great for the holiday season but it's just as perfect for after.  Pumps and a camel blazer make it office appropriate. Add flats for an equally great casual look making it perfect for church and sunday brunch.

When it comes to holiday attire, your makeup can make a huge impact.  You can never go wrong with a bright red lip or smokey eye.  Holidays call for that added glamour.  I'm wearing one of my favorite winter reds, DIVA.  It's a deep merlot color, just like my dress. I did a tighter curl for my hair and teased it a touch for a tousled look. I used THIS WAND with the tapered barrel. It heats up so fast and holds my curl for days. Who doesn't love a hairstyle that lasts days?

Christmas Gift Guide: Men's Edition

Sunday, December 11, 2016

Sorry to interrupt your regularly scheduled shopping for this breaking news announcement but, there are only 2 weeks left before Christmas and, if you're like me, you still need to buy for the men in your life. Luckily there are some really great items out there at all price points.  From the outdoorsmen and the athletic, to the clean shaved and preppy, I've rounded up a list of items to suit every man on your Christmas list.

Tech Gear

Tumi Water Resistant Backpack- Comes in three colors, is ultra durable and super functional.  For the guy on the go, this pack is sure to be a hit. It is made really well. It can stand up to the beating a hike up Half Dome may give it while still looking good.

Fitbit BlazeThis watch is perfect for the sporty man in your life.  He can perfectly track activity and calories burned while looking sleek. It monitors heart rate and sleep patterns so he will get use out of it day and night.

Well Dressed

Cashmere Sweater- This cashmere sweater comes in a variety of colors, is soft to the touch and the best part is, it's under $50!! This is a great staple piece. The cut is flattering on most men and has a luxe feel to it. Who doesn't like cashmere!?! If a sweater is not what you're looking for, try this great jacket. Super chic and stylish and perfect for mild winters.

Accessories- Men's accessories are always a good idea.  Styles have substantially improved in the socks and ties department. Patterns, prints and styles change yearly and there are some really sleek options. Plus, there is so much more than just socks and ties. From beanies (this one is under $40 and cashmere) and wallets, to belts and sunglasses.

Shoes- You can never go wrong with shoes. I'm loving the athleisure fashions that are so big right now.  But, whether you go ultra casual with some Nikes or Adidas or business casual with some leather sneakers, your guys are bound to like them.

Hair and Skin Care- Now more than ever men are spending more time, money and energy on their grooming regimes. In addition to more typical hair products like Bumble and Bumble's surf spray, which is amazing for that tousled, effortless messy hair, men are getting facials and mani pedis with increased frequency.  Do yourself a favor and get a couples massage or pedicure.  It's a win, win for you both.

Does your guy borrow your Clarisonic with too much frequency?  They might not admit it but they love the extra pampering and do care just as much as you do. Clarisonic has come up with a whole men's line specially formulated for cleansing thicker, oilier skin. He will love it and you'll love having yours back.  A great add on is Jack Black add on cleansers and lotions. Bearded or not, it works well for all guys. My husband is a fan.

Hope this roundup of goodies helps give you some ideas and makes your last few shopping items easier to complete.
