Fresh Faced {Foundation Review}

Wednesday, May 31, 2017

Makeup is something I've always loved but have not always been good at.  In fact, I was down right terrible.  I never knew the power of eyebrows, I thought lining my lips with a completely darker shade looked good and I never set my foundation.  These are just a few of the mistakes I made. After trial and error and lots of learning (you-tube is my go-to and I love me some Jaclyn Hill!) I've grown a deeper appreciation and think I've improved a lot.  I don't have the best skin so I've had to learn quickly what would be best for me.  With texture issues and dark spots I need some miracle foundation so, today I'm sharing a review of the various foundations I use regularly. Plus, one of my favorite beauty retailers is having a huge sale now through November 14th for all VIB members. Don't miss out, SHOP HERE.

My favorite all time, full coverage foundation is Estee Lauder's Double Wear.  It buildable for extra coverage but doesn't feel too heavy. It holds up all day and does well for combination skin. When I want to look my best, this is the foundation I grabbed.  I'm so impressed with how far a little goes and it's a reasonable price point.

Make Up For Ever HD Foundation is my go-to everyday foundation.  Its medium coverage but can be used to build into fuller coverage.  It's very lightweight on the skin and doesn't dry out my skin at all. There are 40 different shades so you are bound to find a perfect match for your skin color.

Bobby Brown Skin Foundation is a long wear, full coverage foundation. This is a heavier weight foundation and does do a good job of coverage.  When I feel a little more on the oily side this is the foundation I go to since it tends to dry me out a bit otherwise. It works well to cover blemishes or dark spots but can begin to look cakey if you have a heavy hand when applying.

For my quick 5 minute makeup routine I just grab my Tarte Tinted Moisturizer. It's more of a lightweight and light coverage foundation but has some SPF so it is great for those days when I want a little support but I'm not in need of a full face of makeup. Tarte only carries this in 4 shades so, I have both the fair and the medium colors which I blend together on my fingers for a custom match.

My favorite tools for applying foundation are my Sigma F80 flat top kabuki and my Beauty Blender. I am a big fan of Sigma brushes thanks to Jacklyn Hill and think the F80 is great for seamlessly blending all foundation.  I reserve the blender for my under eye cream and concealer but if my skin is more on the dry side I will wet the blender and use that to add some needed moisture to my foundation. I live by my neutrogena moisturizer and face wash.  I have literally been using these products for over 20 years and they are great.  They cleanse, moisturize without causing my skin to break out or be too oily and the price point can't be beat.

Pleated Off the Shoulder Summer Staple

Thursday, May 18, 2017

Kevin and I snuck in a spontaneous little date night last night to one of our favorite restaurants in town, The Annex Kitchen. If you live in or around the Fresno area it is a must go-to. Amazing homemade pasta, killer drinks and a super chill vibe. I rarely get to get dressed up anymore.  Most days are jeans, tees and tennis shoes so it was a welcome changes to put on heels and a little lace. I wore the same heels as I'm wearing in this post and they are super comfortable and the perfect mid nude tone.  They go with everything.

Anyone else have an emotional reaction to a color? There is just something about yellow that screams happy and cheerful to me.  I can't help but be smiling when wearing it and it is such a beautifully powerful color it exudes confidence. I used to shy away from bright for fear of being too bold but now I gravitate towards it. It would be even better if I was tan when I was wearing it but I guess I have all summer for that!

This pleated yellow off-the-shoulder top is an absolute winner.  Not only is the color fab! The pleated details and ruffle hem are so fun.  Talk about a girlie addition to the closet.  I would definitely recommend sizing up. I'm wearing a S for reference and while the length and width are perfect the elastic around the shoulders could use a touch more room. Best part about this look is that the top is under $20!! I already paired this with a great pair of Lilly Pulitzer shorts, talk about colorful! What's your favorite summer time color?

Splurge vs. Steal

Monday, May 8, 2017

I am always on the lookout for a good deal.  Some things I'll spend more money on than others but for the most part, in order to be budget friendly and still have fun with the latest trends, I look for a great designer dupe at a fraction of the price.  Some of these dupes are so good it's hard to tell which one is the designer and which one is the copy cat.  That's how you know you've scored big. I've rounded up some of my favorite knock offs that are so fantastic you'll want all the details.

Feel free to click on any of the pictures for more details or scroll down.

With summer upon us bathing suits are the hot commodity. One pieces are making a major way and I've loving them. From plunging necklines to lots of lace, you can feel sexy and confident while getting some sun. Crochet is also really hot and this bikini is equal parts amazing and fun. It comes in several colors and is currently in my shopping cart. Just gotta remember to stop eating so much chips and salsa!

With warmer weather comes pretty tops, frilly dresses and lots of great shoes. I've rounded up not only some of my favorite looks of the season but some of the best deals too. I'm loving ruffles and lace if you can't tell.

Fitness should be social. It should be fun and interactive.  It should be lively and energizing and engaging.  When you know the people in the classes and the instructors become like friends, you want to workout.  Even more importantly, you're held accountable. Lately, I've tried to make an effort to sneak in classes at FitnessSocial even though life has been beyond hectic.

With 19 different style of classes, offered seven days a week, I really had no excuse not to go.  The icing on the cake is that one of my girl friends is an instructor there and she's AH-mazing.  Like, makes me look like a sloth kind of Ah-mazing!  From Barre, to Kettlebells and TRX to Yoga, and Ballet Bodies, there is definitely a class for everyone. (See their full schedule of classes HERE.) Plus, FitnessSocial also offers all natural, real food online weight loss planning to help you with your diet and nutrition that are aligned with your overall fitness needs. You can read more about the online plans HERE. Whether you're more interested in leaning and toning or gaining flexibility Melissa and Dina (the owners) have you completely covered. Both are dedicated to all things fitness and that doesn't mean just physical.  Both Dina and Melissa teach about healthy eating habits as well as teach weekly Private Group Classes that provide optional measurements for more accountability and are 1 hour in length.

I had the pleasure of taking Melissa's Private Group Kettlebell, TRX, & Barre class and it was no joke.  In fact, not a single one of the classes I've taken have been too easy or even remotely easy for that matter.  But, they are definitely not exclusive in that any level of fitness ability can take these classes. My last class included a pregnant momma who was killin' it. The instructors provide options for modification and for those who really want to kick it up a notch.  After my class with Heather I could barely walk for two days.  That's my favorite kind of sore.  Especially because I'm always looking to work my legs and glutes.

Most of the classes have about 12 students but if solo is your preference you can schedule a private training as well. Bikini season is among us and rather than wait until July to do something about my winter bod, I got my butt in gear and signed up for classes at FitnessSocial.  I suggest you do the same. You can find out so much more HERE.
