Boy, what a week it has been. I couldn't fit three weeks into this one with all the activities and events we've had. We started off the weekend with a fun little family getaway. It's been so hot that I've been itching to get out of dodge and over to cooler temps. So, we decided to pack up the kids and head to the coast. We started our adventure over at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We have never been and Colton is way into sharks. It was of course packed and we arrived later than we had wanted to (i.e. we had to stop at target and buy an umbrella stroller because we completely forgot to bring anything to hold B in). C loved the aquarium but was sad because he wanted to touch the sharks, sting rays are too weak for his blood. This glass enclosure was a highlight because it replicates a way and covers you in water. C thought it was the coolest thing ever!
We can't head over to the coast and no enjoy some sand and surf! C couldn't wait to run into the ocean, 50 degrees can't stop him. Literally, he ran in with his shirt and hat before we even set down our blankets. He has no fear and the cold is not a deterrent. It was actually a perfect beach day. Very few people and just enough sun to warm the skin.
We met Papa at the farm to harvest some peaches and plums. Colton was very prepared with his bucket and fireman ax. Doesn't everyone chop down the peaches with a pick? We got more than our hearts and tummies knew what to do with so of course, we made some fresh homemade peach ice cream. If you've never made homemade ice cream before stop what you're doing and go do it. Its so much creamier and delish than store bought. No gum or added preservatives, plus it takes no time at all. Frozen yogurt is also delicious and next up I'm going to try sorbet.
I had the pleasure of being invited by my sweet friend Annie of The Real Housewife of Fresno to join in tasting California Pizza Kitchen's new menu and when I say it was amazing, I mean the food, the service, the hospitality was all amazing! They treated us to half a dozen different signature cocktails from the California Roots (with ripe avocado), one of my favorites, to the Blueberry Ginger Smash. We had BBQ Chicken pizza and truffle cream flat bread. Two salads, including a new favorite, a seasonal strawberry and watermelon salad. They brought out several of their new main course entrees and they were incredible. The steak was tender and juicy, the faro that came with the halibut was nutty and flavorful and the chicken had a crispy exterior but was moist. Every dish was better than the next. And while I have to admit, in the past I have always thought of CPK as just a pizza place, this tasting has definitely changed my viewpoint. We finished the night with three of their killer desserts. I'm not a chocolate fan so I didn't try that one but the strawberry shortcake with homemade whipped cream and biscuit was delightful and the butter pound cake was incredible. So decadent. I could have licked the plate clean if there was literally an ounce of room left. To say we were stuffed was an understatement. Benito was our server and he was attentive and sweet. Kelly, the manager, was charismatic and incredibly generous. I can't wait to go back again.
On Wednesday we had Carter's 5th birthday. I can't even believe he is now 5! I still remember coming to his 1st birthday like it was yesterday. The time seriously just flies. He had a Jake and the Neverland Pirates party at the trampoline arena. Colton loved every minute jumping around. I didn't get a pick of the favors since I was too busy wrangling two boys but Christina had the cutest inflatable pirate swords and a Jake cup with curly straw and pirate's booty! It was a total hit with all the kids. Thanks again for having us C!
Our preschool is year round but every August they take two days off so my girlfriend and I decided we'd take all our munchkins to the zoo. Our big kids are only a few weeks apart and our babies were both born on the same day. When Colton and Tinsley get together its a wild ride. They are like two peas in a pod, monkey see monkey do and are two little trouble makers but I love it. We feed the giraffes, touched the sting rays and saw all the animals before the babies called it!! After this morning we all needed a nap.
